UU Nursing Interviews 02 December 2008

The University of Ulster will be interviewing Nursing candidates between the following dates :

23rd - 27th February

2nd - 6th March

Interviews cannot be rescheduled so you must be available on these dates.


UU Arts Interviews 27 November 2008

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Ulster will be interviewing all applicants during February.

These interviews are not for selection purposes but are used to gather information for the University. So please do not be concerned if you are involved.


Personal Statements 10 October 2008
Proofread UCAS personal statements can now be collected from Room 9.

Final Reminder 27 September 2008

Deadline 1 : Tuesday 30th September - Application forms and / or Personal Statements for proofreading. ( St. Mary's 13th October )

Hand to Mr. Marquess in person.

Deadline 2 : Tuesday 30th September - dropping or changing subjects - via Mr Marquess or Mrs O'Neill.

Deadline 3 : Wednesday 1st October - all medicine, dentistry, veterinary and Oxbridge applications completed and sent to referee.


Dropping / Changing Subjects 16 September 2008

A reminder :

Anyone wishing to drop or change a subject must do so through the correct channels i.e. contact either Mr. Marquess (Years 11, 13 & 14 ) or Mrs. O'Neill. (Years 13 & 14)

Any such changes must be completed by the end of September at the latest.

No changes will be permitted after this deadline.


Personal Statements 15 September 2008

Some members of Year 14 may have already noticed that the UCAS website provides guidelines for the writing of a good Personal Statement. These guidelines are available at :

Everyone should check this out before final submission.


UCAS Interviews 10 September 2008

10th September 2008

UCAS interviews will commence in the next few days. All members of Upper Sixth will be interviewed.

All interviewees are recommended to prepare by writing answers to the questions below. Bring your written answers to the interview. Your interviewer may wish to keep your written answers.

It may not be possible to provide notice of interviews times so have your answers available at all times.

  • Subjects & Teachers
  • AS Grades
  • Any declined grades ?
  • Rank subject preference with reasons
  • What aspects of each subject do you like / are you good at ?
  • What university / course(s) will you apply for and why ?
  • Why do you think you are suited to the university / course(s) ?
  • Long term careers aspirations ? Why ?
  • Work Experience(s)
  • Recent school activities - inc. CLAIT, musicals , trips, sport, charities.
  • Responsibilities - prefect, shops, captain etc.
  • Outside school activities, initiatives & responsibilities
  • Awards or achievements - sport, academic, charity etc.
  • Briefly, how would you describe yourself to sell yourself to a university ?

Urgent : Careers Convention 03 September 2008

Methodist College Belfast is holding a careers convention on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th September. This is similar to the convention that you attended in the King's Hall last year, but on a slightly smaller scale. Anyone who obtains a free ticket can attend.

The list of attending universities is on the reading room board. If you want a ticket please let Mr. Marquess know by Monday 8th at the latest.

N.B. You would have to make your own transport arrangements.
